Welcome to KDCAH!

Katherine Dunham is probably best known as a legendary dancer who propelled the awareness of the cultures of the African Diaspora via her choreography. Her famous dance technique reflects a fusion of many cultures.

Miss. Dunham was a true renaissance woman. She was an artist, anthropologist, author, activist, manager, movie star, producer, educator, wife, mother and so much more.

The world needs to know about her wonderful life story and there’s no better learning environment than the Museum and Centers for Arts and Humanities she created.

Please take a global journey through this website and find out more about Miss Dunham’s legacy, Museum, Dance Technique, Dance Seminar, Children’s Workshop, and Membership/Giving Opportunities.

Thank you for visiting our website and we invite you back again and again.

Children's Workshop

Many of the classes offered and activities provided by KDCAH take place in the Children’s Workshop throughout the year. The Children’s Workshop involves youth of various ages 6-17 years. The Children’s Workshop is a two story masonry and wood structure with approximately 1,000 SF on each floor. It is located directly behind the Museum and functioned as the carriage house for the original family. The Children’s Workshop was renovated into a dance studio by a special grant from CBS in the mid-1970s. The main eligibility for kids to participate in the Children’s Workshop activities is a firm commitment to actively engage in program offerings.

Programs fees are very modest and free scholarship opportunities exist for low income students. The Children’s Workshop provides new learning experiences and meaningful artistic opportunities to interact with others in a positive, caring, and safe environment. We strive to engage hundreds of students in a variety of programs and activities. See a detail listing of our programs below:
